There's always something to look at here in Gedser. Today, the ringing was very quiet. Just 20 new birds in the morning.

Tree Sparrow 6
Lesser Whitethroat 2
Whitethroat 1
Redstart 3
Willow Warbler 6
Wheatear 1
Linnet 1

Wheatear 1cy - Craig Brookes
The Wheatear was without a doubt the bird of the day. The first this to be ringed year at Gedser. A few sparrowhawks escaped the passerine nets and avoided the sparrowhawk nets, typical.

From noon until 17:40 myself and Louis braved the sometimes atrocious weather at the tip and counted migration. Migrants noted in my book were.

Osprey 1
Marsh Harrier 3
Red-necked Grebe 1
Common Sandpiper 4
Oystercatcher 16
Knot 6
Wigeon 4
Eider 10
Teal 6
Pintail 2
Common Scoter 3
Arctic Skua 1
Golden Plover 1
Grey Plover 1
Common Tern 17
Arctic Tern 6
'Commic Tern' (Common/Arctic) 4
Sandwich Tern 6
Swallow 280
House Martin 17
LESSER-BLACK BACKED GULL 2 1cy birds

Resting birds included the Long-tailed Skua of previous days, another Red-necked Grebe and 3 Snipe. In the Garden a Firecrest was heard, presumably the same female which we caught early last month; and have re-captured a few times as she is moulting. 18 Crossbills returned north early morning. 50 Yellow Wagtails rested in the harvested field by the tip.

A Grey Seal was also observed for the 3rd day running at the tip!
