Quantity and quality

Another excellent arrival of birds greeted us in the morning with similar weather conditions - moderate easterly wind and clear with 126 new birds trapped; although there was again a big influx of Robins (80 new birds caught) and Dunnocks (15 new birds caught) there was some nice variety as well with a cracking male Ring Ouzel and a smart female Northern Bullfinch the highlights along with a Lesser Redpoll, single Fieldfare and Redwing, a couple of Reed Buntings and a Siskin.

The only other birds of note through the busy morning was an early Tree Pipit which flew over the garden early morning and three Common Cranes near the station in the afternoon.
An afternoon walk round the Marina / Kroghage produced a good mix of things with another male Ring Ouzel, a Green Sandpiper, an adult male Marsh Harrier eating a Song Thrush, two Black Redstarts, two Firecrests, a group of five Common Cranes and a light sprinkling of Robins, Song Thrushes and Goldcrests across the whole area.
