New hands.

After several windy days, it was a good foresight to have a quite ("non-windy") morning. So, we decided to open all the nets and crossing fingers that we didn't need to call Hans for helping as Mariana has left us yesterday.  The morning has started really well with two Sparrowhawks flying around our garden in the first two rounds. We got really enthusiastic as they went into the nets twice,; but unfortunately, they managed to escape and we couldn't ring them!!!! Despite the good conditions, the morning got quiet in the second half of the standard period, with just 25 new birds ringed, 1 Willow wabler and 3 Blackcaps being the highlights today.

After lunch, we went bird watching around the area, spotting one Osprey and Rough-legged Buzzard on the East coast and three Red-necked grebes and two Teals on Kroghage . Furthermore, the numbers of Barn Swallows, Sand Martins and Wheaters seems to increase in the last few days.

In addition, there was a new moth in the trap, Orthosia cruda, the first for the station, and the Lesser Whitethroat retrapped yesterday was singing all morning around the garden.

Johanne has just arrived tonight and she'll join us tomorrow in the ringing team. Hopefully, we'll have a busy morning with some new species ringed.
